When it comes to using rescue hoists, you need to be aware that each year, several hundreds of incidents/ accidents involving rescue hoists have been reported. In a few cases, it was found that the rescue worker operating the winch and the rescue hoist along with the sling had little to no training on how to operate it safely. In other cases, the hoist stopped functioning due to a snag. And there are a few things that you can do to prevent the risk, minimize the accidents by carrying out the following

Research:
The first thing that you need to do before using the rescue hoist is to carry out a thorough inspection of the same. You need to make sure that it is functional and that there are no issues. The other thing that you can do is to get the contact information on the neatest MRO service center, especially one that has already been certified by Breeze eastern overhaul. So that you can contact them in case of any issue and get your rescue hoist repaired right away, for obvious reasons

Training:
The other thing that you need to do is to undertake specialized training and learn how to operate a hoist successfully under most weather conditions. It is mandatory that you should also undertake the requisite safety training as well. You need to make sure that the winch, ropes/wire is kept well lubricated at all times. You need to ensure that the hoist is in perfect working conditions as this can help prevent unnecessary accidents and injuries. Keep in mind that most of the people you plan to rescue are in shock and/ or injured and it is important that you secure then into the sling carefully, so that they do not get injured when being lifted into the helicopter.
